WHEN AND WHERE?
Literazah will be premiered on 12.10.2017 at Literaturhaus Wien. Further performances are planned, a performance in November 2017 at Lettretage in Berlin has been confirmed.
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
Literazah is an extreme performance about the cult of the body, bodybuilding, euphoria, and dysmorphia. On the rapidly expanding marketplace of self-optimization the body becomes politics. Thin or fat, athletic or lazy, euphoric or sober – no longer are these descriptions of states, rather moral categories or even insults.
What’s unique about Literazah is that both performers, myself and Jan Braun, will be lifting weights for the whole three hours of the performance. The text will be delivered from memory. We are doing special training for this strenuous effort six months ahead. Not only will the audience witness our increasing exhaustion, the audibility of the pulse will also contribute to the metronomic lulling of the audience. The only support will be water and energy drinks.
Apart from myself, the second participant is Jan Braun, born in Vienna in 1988. He studied Language Art (like myself) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, as well as German Literature and History and Philosophy of Science. He is currently completing a doctorate in History of Science and publishing a collection of stories.
